Poetry For Our Time

Poetry heals the wounds inflicted by reason. -Novalis

Mirror again. This time a looking glass.

(this is way old, which is why it is way different than the lame stuff i’ve been posting lately. it’s just a different kind of lame. it was a reject for my honors project. i didn’t have time to revise so i never did. i do like the idea of it though. i was trying to employ some of gertrude stein’s techniques from _lifting belly_. so i don’t want the poem to die anymore!)

Looking glass. Looking. Look in glass. Looking in glass.

Look in the

looking glass.

Look glass, look.

Here is

Here comes Alice.

Alice through.

Alice look Alice glass. Alice made of glass

looks through.

Looks through the looking glass.

Alice walks.

Alice walking through. Alice walking not through glass

but walking through the looking

Alice through

Alice in glass.

Alice look in glass.

There is a looking glass.

Alice look in glass and there is an Alice

made of glass.

Made of Alice-glass

made of Alice youdonotrecall.

Alice before Alice-ness. Before Alice consciousness

Before Alice

Before Alice being forever

before Alice.

Before Alice

Before Alice in a look

Before Alice in a looking

Before looking.

Be forever before looking.

Be forever before Alice.

Beforever Alice was Alice,

looking was looking,

glass was not glass before

glass was glass, before

glass was.

Before was.

Forever was forever ever ago.

Ever before looking.

Alice all walk through

through Alice through glass

through looking glass

through back to wonder.

Through back to before.

Back to before conscience back to before consciousness.

Forever ago.

Forever ever ago

here was

here was

was looking glass.

Remember ever I cannot remember ever

was looking glass. Was looking through glass.

Or was looking.
