Notes on Trespassing in New York

with 8 comments

The disco bodega sits on the corner of Broke and Dream
Home to the tattered man with a suitcase and a garbage bag
Who dreams of nights at the Paris Theater, lined in fur
But instead guards the corners outside wine shops named “Uncorked” and “Best Cellars”
Ignored by the girls in fringed skirts who talk too loud and too much
Passing the XXXCellent DVD and frozen yogurt
And uptown, a love letter falls from a bridge, and drowns.

  2. I thought of it on the tram this morning (I commute via this cable car that follows the Queensboro bridge across the East River and then jump on the subway) and it really did look like a piece of paper or something was floating down from the bridge and then hit the water and slowly sunk. You really can’t make that kind of imagery up.
